The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for qualified and experienced individuals in the position of
Advisor, Senior - EMS and Chemistry.
About The Role
We are seeking motivated Advisor, Senior - EMS and Chemistry to assist with implementation of the Environmental Monitoring & Reporting Plan by undertaking environmental sampling, performing laboratory analysis of water, soil and air samples and managing and reporting data. The candidate will also assist in implementing the Environmental Management System.
The Purpose Of This Role Is To
- Ensure execution, continual improvement and review of NPL’s Environmental Management System (EMS), under the ISO 14001 framework.
- Work with Departments to ensure compliance and implementation of the EMS.
- Ensure review of NPL environmental risks, engaging with Departments to ensure implementation of controls.
- Participate in the development of the NPL strategic direction and delivery of sustainability outcomes
- Report on EMS monitoring and measuring requirements to Management
- Provide support, mentoring and tasking of work to Environmental Advisors and Officers as required.
Key Accountabilities
- Have a detailed understanding of NPLs environmental licences and permits, and how the EMS manages their conditions.
- Promote the requirements of the NPL EMS and ensure Departments understand their environmental aspects and controls.
- Review sub-contractor safety and environmental documents before they commence work on-site to ensure adequate processes are in place to manage task risks.
- Undertake and assist others in environmental assurance activities (inspections, audits, observations) to verify compliance with, and implementation of, EMS requirements. This also includes follow-up and verification of actions for closure.
- Undertake and ensure Key Performance Indicators assigned to the team are completed with sufficient detail to demonstrate effective engagement and information.
- Review draft monthly, quarterly and annual reports for Barrick and other stakeholders as required before submitting for acceptance and approval.
- Participate in and lead projects to improve and enhance environmental management.
- Participate in cross-skilling activities with other teams within the Environment Department to understand requirements and increase depth of knowledge.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends across environmental issues, standards and expectations, including emerging trends in environmental and planning legislation in PNG and overseas.
- Participate in/facilitate/lead environmental incident investigations, ensuring appropriate and required content is added into INX, and actions are implemented and closed.
- Promote and achieve a high standard of safe and healthy working conditions and understanding. Verify FLRAs have been completed for all field tasks. Promote and comply with the Barrick Porgera Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
- Achieve and maintain competence to undertake daily roles and tasks and ensure other team members are competent to undertake their tasks.
- Identify and participate in additional training and education opportunities to improve skills and competence and ensure other team members are equally challenged.
- Ensure review and execution of Standard Operating Procedures for all tasks performed within the team.
- Ensure effective communication and handover with counterpart prior to departure from site.

Mobilization Requirement
- This position is open to PNG Citizens Only
- Rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off FIFO basic
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage).
- Must Have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)
